What is packaging?

Before looking at packing groups and packaging requirements, let's define some terms identified within the context
of the HMR.

Package or outside package refers
to packaging plus its contents.

Packaging is a receptacle and any other components or materials necessary for the receptacle to perform its containment function in conformance with the minimum packing requirements of the HMR.

Other terms associated with packaging and identified within the context of the HMR include the items shown to the left.
