Column 10 is specific to stowage requirements aboard vessels.

Column 9 identifies quantity limitations aboard passenger aircraft and rail car and cargo aircraft.

Column 8 identifies packaging references.

The special provisions listed in Column 7 provide pertinent information about the material. The meaning and requirements are provided in
§ 172.102.

Column 6 lists the primary and subsidiary hazard label codes specified for the material.

Column 5 lists the packing group assignment.

Columns 2, 3, 4, and 5 provide information used for the basic description of a hazardous material.

Column 4 lists the identification number.

Column 3 lists the hazard class or division.

Column 2 lists the proper shipping name.

Column 1 indicates additional information about the hazardous material. The instructions preceding
the table explain these symbols.

The Hazardous Materials Table (HMT)

The HMT consists of 10 columns and provides information for each hazardous material listed. The HMT provides the basic information necessary to ship a hazardous material safely. The Table:

provides the proper shipping name or directs the user to the preferred proper shipping name;
identifies the hazard class or specifies that the material is forbidden;
specifies or references shipping requirements; and
provides additional information in Column 1 pertaining to the proper shipping name or requirements pertaining to certain materials transported by specific modes.
